Edward J. DeFinis

    Edward J. DeFinis, age 75, of Wantage, passed away on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville while surrounded by his loving family. He was a most beloved and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

    Born in Orange to the late Horace and Rose (Monica) DeFinis, Edward grew up in the Livingston area before moving to Sussex County. He had served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 73 in Monticello, N.Y. Edward attended Rutgers University and spent his career in the computer software industry since its infancy. Most recently, he was a self-employed webmaster, owning and operating DeFinis Computer Associates in Sussex.

    Edward was a member of St. Jude The Apostle Church in Hamburg and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Livingston. Most recently, he served on the Livingston High School Class of ‘57 Reunion Committee, where he also served as the website administrator. He was predeceased by his sister, Doris Elphinstone, in 2012. Edward is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years, Virginia “Ginny” (O’Brien); his three sons, James Edward and his wife Daniela of Flanders, Steve G. and his wife, Christine, of Franklin, and Derek Francis and his wife, Michelle, of Wantage; his daughter, Jacqueline Marie Alvino and her husband, Robert, of

    Wantage; his brother, Horace Jr. and his wife, Emmy, of Fosterdale; his

    two sisters, Becky Rash of California and Helen Hyde of Washington; and his 10 grandchildren, Maria Elizabeth, Alec Michael, and Brien Joseph Alvino and Kelly, Nicole, Daniel, Alexander, Ethan, Aiden, and Gavan DeFinis.

    Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank St. (Route 23), Sussex. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. at St. Jude The Apostle Church in Hamburg. Interment will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery.
