Single friends dance to help fight blindness

| 05 Feb 2015 | 11:00

The Single Friends Valentine's Dance will be held Saturday, Feb. 14, at Unity, 25 Mudcut Road, Lafayette, from 7-11 p.m.

This event will benefit the 20/20/20 charity whose mission is to restore the sight of millions of children and adults in the third world currently suffering blindness. It will benefit those who could easily be relieved through a simple 15-minute medical procedure this organization helps make accessible to impoverished families.

Aside from raising funds for such a worthy cause, what makes this event unique is that in order to attend it, each single must bring another single friend of the opposite sex with whom they are not romantically involved.

Not only does this requirement ensure there'll be an equal number of eligble men and women, it also ensures that everyone has a great time. Because even if neither of you meets a "match," you'll still have a friend to hang out and dance with, so it's a win/win situation.

As organizer Deborah Guarino explains, "I thought it was time for singles to finally be pro-active about celebrating, rather than just getting depressed about, a holiday that idolizes love," organizer Deborah Guarino said. "So instead of letting couples have all the fun this Valentine's Day, we're hoping singles and their single friends come out to dance and be merry together rather than sitting all alone at home eating chocolate"

The fee will be $10 at the door.
