    Betty Mae Howell, 84, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice in Fredon. Mrs. Howell, daughter of the late Warren and Helen (Hendershot) Haggerty, was born in Green Twp., on Dec. 19, 1930. She resided for many years in Layton and Culvers Lake moving to Frankford Twp. in 2002.

    Ms. Howell started out as a soda jerk at the former Deuchler’s Pharmacy in Sussex and was employed for a short time at Schering-Plough. She later waitressed at the former Lucky Strike from 1952 to 1960 and then for the next six years at McKeown’s Restaurant. She also drove school bus for Dunn’s Bus Service and later retired from Selective Insurance Company in Branchville, where she worked for 28 years.

    Ms. Howell was a member of the Beemerville Presbyterian Church where she served as choir director and elder. She also served as the treasurer of the Beemerville Cemetery Association. Ms. Howell was a member of Order of Easter Star Northern Chapter #38 since 1982. She served at all chair levels including Worthy Matron and was selected to be the Grand Representative of Mississippi.

    Ms. Howell was a member of the Frankford Twp. Senior Club, Lafayette House, Bridge Club and the Pinochle Club.

    She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol J. Hazleton, in 2009. She was a devoted and loving mother of Candise Lombaerde and her husband, Clark, of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. She is also survived by her cherished grandson, Matthew R. Hazleton and his wife Amy of No. Haven, Conn.; sisters, Dolores Myslinski and her husband, Charles, of Bartonsville, Pa., and Shirley Hunt and her husband, Brian, of Layton; nieces and nephews, including Dawn Johansen and Brian Hunt Jr. of Layton, Charles Beemer and Melody Rauscher of Lafayette; great nieces and great nephews; extended family, The Simmons Family and her best “Buddy” Joyce Palmer as well as her grand dog Ruby-Doo Lombaerde and great grand dog Reginald Arthur Hazleton.

    A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 14, at noon at Beemerville Presbyterian Church, 226 Rt. 519 Wantage, NJ 07461.
