Wallkill Valley senior wins competition

Austin Oleksy, a senior at Wallkill Valley Regional High School was the winner in District 21 of Sussex County in the Veterans of Foreign Wars annual Voice of Democracy competition.

The challenge was to write an essay outling why veterans are important to national history and the future of the United States.

Commander Stephen L. Davis, Jr., along with VFW Chairman Donald E. DeVore presented a plaque along with scholarship money.

He also was invited and attended the State Voice of Democracy dinner at the Hotel Somerset where he was recognized for being District's 21 winner, along with the other 20 district winners.
