    Feb. 6Nelson Macas, 39, of Franklin, was sentenced to a five year suspended state prison sentence, credit for 267 days served subject to Megan’s Law and parole supervision for life.

    All fines and fees to be paid by defendant. The defendant is subject to an ICE detainer.

    Macas pleaded guilty on Dec. 1, 2014 to count one of an Indictment handed up on Feb. 5, 2003, amended to Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, a crime of the third degree.

    Macas was represented by Steven Insley, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Seana Pappas.

    Deane Tenzi, 45, of Franklin, was sentenced to two years of probation with credit for 54 days already served in the Keogh Dwyer Correctional Facility. He must also pay all court fines and fees, undergo a TASC evaluation, follow all recommendations and not abuse prescribed medications.

    He pleaded guilty on Oct. 20, 2014, to third-degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

    The defendant hid heroin and hypodermic needles in the Franklin home of a friend while he was visiting the residents. When questioned by the Franklin Borough Police Department, the defendant admitted ownership of the items.

    Feb. 9 Scott Brady, 19, of Sparta, pleaded guilty to third-degree Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

    Sentencing is presently anticipated for April 17.

    Following an investigation by the Hopatcong Police Department the defendant and two co-defendants were found to be in possession of a large amount of marijuana and Brady admitted he had been selling large quantities of marijuana for at least a year.

    Feb. 10Jason Torres, 24, of Newark, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree Eluding and four counts of third-degree Burglary.

    Sentencing is presently scheduled for April 17.

    With the assistance of two co-defendants, Torres stole a vehicle from the driveway of a Vernon residence. He was stopped by police in Hardyston for speeding, but then fled the scene.

    Police were in pursuit of the stolen vehicle through Hamburg and Franklin. During the pursuit, the defendant eluded police on foot as well as by stealing two additional vehicles.

    The defendant was apprehended in Newark a few days later on an unrelated charge and was served with the warrants for his arrest while incarcerated in Essex County Jail.

    He was represented by David Nufrio, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.

    Feb. 11Thomas Rae, 48, of Newton, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree Driving While Suspended and fourth-degree Shoplifting.

    Sentencing is presently scheduled for March 18.

    The defendant admitted to taking various items from the Hampton Walmart along with a co-defendant. At the time of the shoplifting he was caught on surveillance camera driving and investigation revealed he was driving while suspended.
