Two Franklin police officers were credited with rescuing a man overdosing on heroin on Saturday, Feb. 21, after the department received a report of a suspicious incident.

Police said Patrol Officer Jesse Babcock and Lt. Jeffrey Smith located a man in a vehicle near the Wendy's parking area that appeared to be unresponsive.

Police said before paramedics arrived, they determined the male had overdosed on heroin, with both administering a dose of naxalone, a medication used to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose.

Police said the male became responsive a short time later, was breathing on his own and was transported to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and any necessary medical treatment.

Police said this is the first time the Franklin police have used naxolone.

The matter is still under investigation and no complaints were files as of Monday morning.
