Franklin police assist in Narcan save

    Franklin police on Tuesday, Feb. 25, assisted in the rescue of a person overdosing on heroin in the space of a week.

    Police said they and the Sparta first Aid Squad responded to a report of an unresponsive male who may have overdosed on heroin. Patrolman Jesse Babcock and Lt. Jeffrey Smith responded and located an unresponsive male in a shed near a residece. Police said they found him, while the officers, along with the Sparta First Aid Squad determined the victim had overdosed on heroin.

    The Sparta First Aid Squad administered a dose of naxalone, a medication used to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose. A short time later, the male became responsive, breathing on his own, and was transported to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and any necessary medical treatment.

    Five days earlier, Babcock and Smith administered naloxone to a male who had overdosed on heroin in a vehicle near the Wendy’s on State Highway 23.

    The matter is still under investigation. No complaints were filed.
