    Feb. 23Justin Gordon, 38, of Kearny, pleaded guilty to Shoplifting, a third degree crime.

    Sentencing is presently scheduled for April 10.

    Gordon admitted that he shoplifted approximately $1,400 worth of merchandise from Walmart located in the Borough of Franklin.

    Feb. 27James Clark, 40, of Montague, was sentenced to seven years in state prison, 360 days jail credit for time served, $2,000 in restitution and $350 in court fines.

    He pleaded guilty on Oct. 27 to the third-degree crime of burglary, second-degree eluding law enforcement and to motor vehicle tickets for driving while suspended and failure to stop.

    He admitted to burglarizing a home in Montague and eluding a law enforcement officer on Feb. 11.

    The matter was investigated by the New Jersey State Police.

    March 2 Joshua Thomas, 24, of Newton, was sentenced to two years of probation. He must pay total fines and penalties of $405, submit a DNA sample at his expense and pay restitution in the amount of $2,215.

    He pleaded guilty on Dec. 15 to Burglary, Theft and Forgery, all crimes of the third degree.

    In pleading guilty, Thomas admitted to entering a business in Newton on Oct. 18, 2013 without the owner’s permission or consent and stealing several business checks, five of which he later wrote out as cash and forged the business owner’s name to.

    The matter was investigated by the Newton Police Department.

    March 3Joseph A. Colon, 23, of Newton pleaded guilty to the third degree crime of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance.

    Sentencing is presently scheduled for May 1.

    He admitted to distributing heroin in Newton on June 19 to an individual cooperating with the Sussex County Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force.

    March 4Howard A. Dieterle, 53, of Newton, was sentenced to three years of probation and was ordered to serve 364 days in the Keogh Dwyer Correctional Facility.

    He was further ordered to attend and complete the Rescue Mission Program and follow any aftercare instructions, and his driving privileges were suspended for six months. He must pay total fines and penalties of $1,205 and submit a DNA sample at his expense.

    Dieterle pleaded guilty on Aug. 4 to Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a crime of the third degree. In pleading guilty, Dieterle admitted to possessing six bags of heroin in his wallet during the course of a brief investigation by the Newton Police Department.

    The matter was investigated by the Newton Police Department.

    Ethan Melazzo, 23, of New Egypt, NJ, was sentenced to two years of probation and a seven months loss of his driver’s license.

    He must also obtain a TASC evaluation and follow all recommendations, undergo random urine monitoring, remain drug free, and pay all Court ordered fines and fees.

    Melazzo pleaded guilty on Dec. 1, to Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, a third degree crime and Driving While Under the Influence. When the defendant was pulled over by Ogdensburg Police for a motor vehicle infraction he was found to be highly under the influence. While being place under arrest he became combative kicking, punching and spitting on the officer.
