Two face charges after bank robbery

Two people face charges in connection with a robbery at the PNC Bank located on Berkshire road in Jefferson Township, Morris County Prosecutor Frederic Knapp and Jefferson Township Police Chief Kevin Craig announced on Tuesday, March 11.

William Chasmer, 57, and Janet C. Kaine, 44, both of Oak Ridge, were charged with one count of robbery, a crime of the first degree, and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, a crime of the second degree.

Police said they received a report of a bank robbery at 9:40 a.m. on the morning of March 11. Police said the bank was robbed by an armed male who entered the bank and demanded money. Police said the ensuing investigation led them to Chasmer's residence where he was arrested without incident. Police said further investigation alleged Kaine as an accomplice.

Numerous law enforcement agencies responded to investigate, including the Major Crimes Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, the Jefferson Township Police Dept., the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Section, and the FBI.

Chasmer was sent to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $250,000 bail with no 10 percent option. Kaine was sent to the county jail in lieu of $150,000 bail with no 10 percent option.
