The New Sussex Symphony announced its program for its upcoming annual Family Concert, scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, at Sparta High School. Joining the orchestra will be more than 100 student artists and musicians from Sparta, Vernon, Blairstown and Randolph.

Program selections include excerpts from “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Mussorgsky, “The Wild Bears” by Elgar, Rossini’s “William Tell Overture” and “Nocturne for Cello and String Orchestra” by Tchaikovsky. Kristina Schaberg, a senior at West Morris Mendham High School will be the cello soloist. Schaberg performs locally with the Sussex County Youth Orchestra and has also successfully auditioned for the North Jersey Region I Orchestra.

“Our annual family concert is a great opportunity for those new to classical music — in particular children — to hear what may be their first live orchestra concert,” said Joseph Kulick, the symphony’s board chairman. “The most exciting event of the day, however, will likely be the performance of Rossini’s “William Tell Overture,” when the orchestra and students will be joined by some of our very youngest area musicians from the Crescendo Suzuki Violin Studio.

Children attend for free when accompanied by an adult. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students. Although tickets may be purchased at the door, advance purchase is strongly recommended due to anticipated high turnout. Tickets are available at Lou’s Music Center in Newton, or by calling 973-579-6465. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place on Sunday, March 22.
