Local performer to teach children

SPARTA — Legendary Opera and Musical Theatre performer Barbara Davis of Vernon recently joined Sing A Song NJ LLC., home of Music Together of Sparta, as the newest Music Together teacher, and as the instructor of their newest classes geared toward 6-9-year-olds.

The 6-week program called, ONSTAGE!, was created as a weekly hour and 15-minute class that will teach healthy vocal habits, age appropriate songs, and theatre games including pantomime and improvisation. The final class will conclude with a performance for parents and friends.

“Our Music Together classes are for children ages birth to 5 years, and the adults who love them.” said Heather Donnelly, director of Sing A Song N.J. “We have created such a wonderful musical community in our classes, and have families who really appreciate the amazing benefits of music that they naturally want to continue with a high quality program for their Music Together graduates."

Davis has taught voice and theatre for various fine arts programs around the tri-state area and also as an adjunct professor at William Paterson University. Davis has been Marie Osmond's voice teacher for more than 20 years and prepared Miss Osmond for her Broadway debut in "The King and I," her performance on Oprah and her most recent Carnegie Hall performance.

Davis also will get her certification as a Music Together teacher in the spring.

“I heard about the Music Together program and came to watch a class to find out more about it,” Davis said. “When I saw the quality of the classes and the emphasis on early childhood development combined with amazing music, I was hooked."

ONSTAGE! will begin on Sunday, April 2,6 from 1:30-2:45 p.m. for 6 weeks at the Music Together studio attached to Sparta Lanes Bowling Alley in Sparta. The cost will be $165. Music Together classes begin the week of April 20 for 10 weeks, at the Sparta Lanes location, N.J. Swim, and Monkeydoodles Playroom. Space is still available for both programs.
