Saturday's Music at the Mission music showcase and open mic features Stuart Kabak, Derek Pedersen and Adam Moskowitz.

Showcase performers
Kabak is known in the acoustic music community as a live sound tech or producer of Pirate Camp at Falcon Ridge Music Festival. But he has a secret - he is also an award-winning singer songwriter with five songs recorded by Fast Folk Magazine and numerous awards from national and international song writing contests. Kabak is a true story teller. His lyrics are deep and precise. Often using open tunings, his melodies are unconventional and captivating. Some of his songs are covered by fellow artists. (Numbers, Mom's Guitar).

From the hills on the border of rural New Jersey and New York State, Pedersen sings and plays with the influences of American Folk singers such as Leadbelly, Barbra Dane, and John Jacob Niles. Pedersen studied classical voice while in college and holds a degree in Arts Management and Opera Studies from the University of Hartford. Drawing from his interest in the German composer Robert Schumann, Pedersen enjoys writing with romantic and poetic flow while still engaging his American folk roots.

Brooklyn born and bred, Moskowitz has been crafting songs since 1988 when he first picked up a guitar as an exercise for an acting class in college. He became a regular at many open mics in the Village through the 1990s, and has played as a featured artist at The Gaslight, The Sidewalk Café, The Baggot Inn, McGovern's and countless others. Currently living in West Milford, he has become a staple at the open mic scene here. He has a style and vocal quality that has been compared to artists such as Springsteen, Cash and Morrison (Jim, not Van).

The showcase begins at 7:30 with the three musicians playing in a round robin format until 9 p.m.

Open micThe open mic begins at 9 with some of the finest musicians in the area and beyond. Each gets two songs or 10 minutes.
