Hamburg police awarded grant

The Hamburg Police Dept. has received an $11,110 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

Director Police Director Wayne Yahm applied for a grant for 12 new portable police radios. The radios were needed to improve officer safety and service to the public, police said.

Yahm was notified on Monday, April 6, that Hamburg received the grant to cover the cost of radios and related equipment.

Yahm said the grant will save the police department about 15 percent of its operating budget.

"The cost of officer safety and service to the public is unmeasureable," he said.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation will present a check to the Hamburg Polcie Dept. in the near future.
