A board member from the Franklin Mineral Museum came to the Franklin Board of Education meeting on March 30, looking for a way to make holding the mineral show at the school more affordable for the museum.

Ed Seger, along with board members Elna Hauck, Ed Seger and Steve Phillips, and with Past President Richard Hauck, told the school board the museum has changed its opening time to 9 a.m. from 6 a.m. to save money.

Seger said the Franklin Mineral show is the number one public fundraiser, and brought up the newest fee, for a food concession at the show.

"Food was never part of the show," Seger said.

Seger asked the members of the Franklin Board of Education to waive the charge for having food, and suggested the possibility of just having water at the show. The Franklin Mineral Museum Board members feel that they don’t need to have food at the show because it became more of an effort than it was worth.

Seger suggested not having food and that would save money on having to pay janitors to clean up.

Board of Education Secretary William Sabo told Seger he made a note to review the extra four-hour cost needed to pay custodians for clean-up after the show. Sabo said that this was something new for them and the school board came up with a flat fee that has been effect for the last 10 years. Sabo said this contract has not changed and includes wear-and-tear from use the use of the school.

The Franklin Mineral Museum is planning to hold the show on Sept. 26-27 at the school.
