Fate of Hardyston First Aid Squad building in question

With the Hardyston Township First Aid Squad shut down, the fate of the squad's headquarters is in question.

Township Manager Marianne Smith and Township Attorney Fred Semrau said a family donated the land to the township in the 1960s, and the township built the First Aid Squad building on it.

The deed indicates that if the Hardyston First Aid Squad were to dissolve, the heirs of the family have the first right to purchase the property. If the heirs are interested in buying the property back, they would have to pay for the improvements and the repairs on the building. If the heirs opt out of buying the property back, the deed states the lot would remain township property.

Miller asked Semrau if he can get in touch with the heirs of the owners who donated the property. Semrau told Miller and the Council he will work on locating them.
