The Vernon Fire Department Company #1 brought about 20 pets in need to their pet adoption day.

According to fire department volunteer Heather Gensinger, the event helped to place seven dogs through Cold Nose Warm Heart and one cat through Father John’s Animal House. The majority of the dogs arrived from a Georgia kill shelter last week.

The day saw a steady stream of animal lovers including Vernon resident Kayla Walker who first played with and then adopted “Porter,” a male mixed breed puppy with webbed toes that indicate he has a good amount of water-type dog in him.

There were numerous pet oriented vendors at the event including Dr. Scott Gaydos of the Vernon Veterinary Clinic and Terri Ramieri of Advanced Veterinary Care of Franklin.
