Understanding Gender Identity Workshop

ANDOVER — Gender Identity is a trending topic that has been making headlines in the news and on social media. In an effort to meet the needs and requests of community members, The Center for Prevention has partnered with The Upper Delaware GLBT Center to present, “Understanding Gender Identity,” at The Center’s Satellite Office, 65 Newton Sparta Road located in Andover Township on May 15 from 8:30 a.m to 3 p.m.

This full day workshop will challenge the traditional ways we have been taught to think about gender and provide an understanding of gender identity, specifically the experience of individuals who identify as transgender. The differences between gender orientation, sexual orientation and expression of gender will be explained. Respectful and effective ways to address the challenges that transgender people face in school and the community will be addressed.

Trainer, Patty Tomaszewski will be joined by Brendan M. Conner, Esq., Staff Attorney at Streetwise and Safe, who will discuss legal concerns and rights of trans people. Christopher Scott, the parent of a transgender child, will share a personal family story.

Tomaszewski has incredible enthusiasm, passion and dedication to her work as a trainer in the area of LGBTQ studies and this day will provide you with current essential knowledge ready to share this information with those you work with, love and/or serve.

Whether you are a community educator, school counselor, school administrator, therapist or concerned community member you, will receive the information you need to know to assist you in creating a welcoming and safe space for everyone. Along with that you will see the many sides and concerns surrounding gender identity and the LGBTQ community.
