Area Boy Scout earns Eagle rank

Christopher Matthew Peterson, the son of Thomas and Lynn Peterson, is a member of Hardyston/Hamburg Boy Scout Troop 187 in Sussex County, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout on April 26 after successfully completing his Eagle Scout Board of Review.

Peterson is a junior at Wallkill Valley Regional High School. He started out in the Cub Scout program as Tiger Cub in 2004. In 2009, he earned the Arrow of Light and transitioned into Boy Scout Troop 187. As a member of Troop 187, Peterson has held a number of positions of responsibility including den chief, librarian, historian, patrol leader and senior patrol leader.

For his Eagle project, Peterson beautified Heater's Pond in Ogdensburg by building three benches and a table for the pavilion area and also painted the pavilion.

He earned 28 merit badges on his trail to Eagle and is working on Bronze Eagle Palm.

Peterson also has been a member of Wallkill's track and field and football teams. He also involved in the Peer Leader program at the high school helping new students smoothly adjusted to attending a high school.

Peterson will receive the Eagle Scout Award at his Court of Honor on Aug. 23.
