Franklin school board reviews budget

The tax levy will take up 55 percent of the projected revenue for the Franklin Borough School's operating budget for the 2015-16 year.

Board of Education Business Administrator/Secretary Bill Sabo reviewed the $9,328,830 spending plan, which also will be composed of 36 percent state aid, 1 percent interest earnings and 8 percente from the budgeted fund balance.

Instructional costs, which include regular and special education staff salaries, textbooks, supplies, library/media, child study team, resource centers, in-class support, out-of-district tuition payments, speech and health office, part time and overtime will cost $4,548,516.

A probable expense for staff development is $133,629. This includes supervisor of instruction, office and staff development expenses. Capital outlay which is estimated interest earnings and other expenses is likely to be $225,133.

The benefit expenses include medical/dental insurance, social security contributions and workers compensation costs of $2,131,433.

The anticipated costs for operating and maintenance are $994,557. This includes maintenance/repairs, custodial salaries, building supplies, and utilities and contracted services. An estimated amount for the administration budget is $703,485. This includes the salaries of the central administration, the principal, the secretarial/office staff, professional services and supplies, and election expenses.

An anticipated cost for transportation will be $295,228. This includes busing students to and from school and also includes athletic and activity transportation.

Recognition
The school board presented two plaques to Cassandra Symons for Governor’s Educator of the Year. Suzanne Crisman was awarded a plaque for Governor’s Educational Service Professional of the Year.

Both recipients received $200 each to use for their classroom needs.
