Joseph J. McGarry

    Joseph J. McGarry, 94, passed away at his home on Friday, May 1, 2015. Joseph was born on March 28, 1921, in New York City to the late Margaret (Murray) and John McGarry.

    He was a coxswain mate for the United States Coast Guard during WWII serving from 1942 through 1945. He was a Dock Boss for the New York Passenger Ship Terminal for 57 year of service with the NYSA-ILA retiring in 2001. He was also a member of Local #1 ILA. He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle RC Church.

    He was predeceased by his first wife, Agnes (nee Lokken) Mc Garry in 1971, and his two son-in-laws, Thomas Barger in 2002 and Robert Ross in 2013.

    Joseph is survived by his wife of 40 years Margaret “Peggy” (nee Callahan) and his daughters, Kathleen Barger of Hamburg, Joanne Ross of Hamburg, Patricia Morris and her husband, John, of Long Valley, and Maureen Olsen and her husband, Fred, of Naples, Fla., and his nine grandchildren and his 11 great grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 5 at 10 a.m. at the Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home 241 Rt. 94, Vernon, NJ (GPS use 1 Vanderhoof Court) to St. Jude the Apostle RC Church, Hamburg for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, interment committal service at the St. Thomas of Aquin RC Church Cemetery, Ogdensburg.
