Franklin Boy Scouts camp at Sterling Mine

Franklin Troop 90 took went camping at the Sterling Mining Museum.

During the outing, the boys participated in earning three merit badges. The troop camped from Friday night to Sunday morning. During the campout the boys worked on their Astronomy, Geology, and Mining in Society Merit badges.

Friday night, the troop took a tour of the mine as well as the museum and camped in the mine and Saturday night, they camped in tents next to the observatory. Saturday morning, the boys participated is a discussion with their host about astronomy and at night they all got to look into the telescope and see Jupiter.

Saturday afternoon, the boys had some downtime and enjoyed a troop game of soccer and some other activities. Saturday night after all the troop's activities were completed, some of the boys went into the mines again with one of the local boy scout venturing groups for a black out tour of the mine and saw minerals that are not normally seen during a regular tour.

On Saturday night, the troop had a campfire going and concluded the weekend with a tradition of “Rose/Bud/Thorn”, where the boys describe what they liked about the campout, did not like about the campout, and what they were looking forward to.
