1 man dead in Franklin motorcycle crash

A Bergenfield man died in a vehicle accident on Sunday morning when he was struck by two sedans on Route 23 in Franklin.

Carlos Grisales, 40, was pronounced dead at St. Clare's Sussex Hospital as the result of injuries from the accident, according to Franklin police.

The crash is still under investigation but police said they believe Grisales was driving straight on Route 23 at about 9:30 a.m. past the intersection of Washington Avenue when his motorcycle struck a sedan turning into the Franklin ShopRite plaza,

A vehicle traveling behind the sedan also struck the motorcycle of Grisales, Franklin Police Det. Nevin Mattesich said.

Police are not identifying the drivers of the other vehicles, Mattesich said.

None of the occupants of the sedans were injured.

The Franklin Police Department, Hardyston Police Department, Ogdensburg Police Department, Sparta Basic Life Support (BLS) and St. Clare’s Sussex Paramedics responded to the accident. The Sussex County Prosecutors Office and State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit assisted in the investigation.

The accident shut down Route 23 for several hours.
