The Ogdensburg Borough is facing a steep bill because the state DEP is requiring it to spend between $185,000 to $486,000 to fix the Heater's Pond earthen dam

At the council meeting held June 8, the council spoke of a $30,000 report it recently received from Cherry, Weber, and Associates Engineering firm outlining the cost of the three proposed options. It will cost around $486,000 to armor the dam, $477,000 to lower the water and armor portions of the existing dam, and $185,000 to remove the dam.

Heater's Pond earthen dam has never had water go over its top and was built during the 1970s.

The council unanimously agreed the question should go to a referendum for the public to decide which option is best.

The council also chose a public meeting date on Monday, July 27, 7 p.m., at either the firehouse or school in order for the residents to review all the information and then decide.

Prior to the meeting, the council will send pertinent information to the residents, and Councilman George Hutnick will post information on the borough website.

Councilman David Astor and Councilwomen Rachel Slater, and Regina Rizzo are on the sub-committee to prepare for the public meeting. Astor said he plans to meet with the engineer in order to help put the report in layman's terms
