Astor named Ogdensburg school superintendent

Lafayette School Chief School Administrator will take over on July 1 at the Superintendent/Principal of the Ogdensburg School District.

Astor signed a five-year contract with a salary of $127,500 for 2015-16.

Interim Superintendent Ernest Palestis' last school board meeting was on Tuesday, June 2. He has accepted a position as superintendent of the Livingston School District.

"This is where the magic happens," Palestis told the audience on June 2. "Thank you for trusting us with your most precious possession."

The district also hired Dominick J. Demsak, jr. was hired as the new part-time supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, starting July 1. He will work 27 1/2 hours per week and earn $41,250 for 2015-2016. He will replace Wayne Ingerto, who is resigning effective July 1. Ingerto worked at the district for 38 years.

The school board also promoted Earl Hornyak to full-time custodian from part-time at an annual salary of $35,838, starting July 1.
