Firefighters compete in rib-eating contest

This past Saturday was an enthusiastic prelude to the fifth annual Rock, Ribs and Ridges to be held on June 27 and 28 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

The firefighters’ rib eating contest was held at Franklin Sussex Auto Mall on Route 23.

Last year, long standing winner Hunter Space of the Beemerville Fire Department lost to T.J. Donnelly of the Sussex Fire Department. This year was another upset as Firefighter Jeff Walsh of Ringwood’s Skyline Lakes Fire Department displaced second place finisher Donnelly.

The ribs were once again supplied by renowned rib master Eric Figueroa of the Double S Diner. Music was once again provided by the Farmer Phil Band.

Walsh had a winning time of two minutes and eight seconds and brought home a check for $500 to support the efforts of his volunteer department. More information about the upcoming concert can be found at www.rockribsandridges.com.
