K9 Soldiers visits Hamburg School

Service and assistance dog trainer JT Gabriel of Frenchtown-based K9 Soldiers came to visit the Hamburg School on Tuesday, June 16.

She brought assistance dog Kiera with her to meet the students and accept a donation for the organization.

The bulk of the donation was the result of a “Caps for K-9s” day where students could wear a cap to school and if they did, they donated $1 towards the care of Kiera. There also were two teacher “dress down” days that helped to raise the funds.

However, the proceeds of a lemonade stand also came into play. Students Samuel and Lily Tobachnick and their friend John David Frylinck normally donate the money they raise to a local animal shelter. But, when they learned about K9 Soldiers, they decided to donate $20.

Kiera is an assistance dog for Purple Heart recipient Chief Master Sgt. Robert Disney, who is currently redeployed in Afghanistan. Until Disney returns, Gabriel is caring for her.
