The Hardyston Township Council, on June 10, approved a digital sign be installed at the corner of North Church Road and Route 94.

DPW Director Bob Schultz said workers in his departmment will install the sign.

Township Manager Marianne Smith explained on June 6 that one possible location for the sign was the Wheatsworth Sports and Recreation Complex, but the council chose the other location because there is more traffic at the corner of North Church Road and Route 94. There also is more direction and lighting there.

Schultz said the sign will be used to publicize town meetings, sporting events, concerts and cancellations of events due to inclement weather. The sign can display single messages, multiple messages and can be controlled by remote. Schultz told the council the sign should be ready within the next few weeks. He said the sign is easy to install and can be moved without great difficulty.

"It's a digital sign, which is similar to the ones you see in most municipalities or the malls," Schultz said.

Schultz said that the North Church Road and Rt. 94 location was they probably would have better feedback. At the park, the township would have to find a way to get electricity to power the sign.
