Crystal Springs hosts golf, festival

The 2015 Crystal Springs 4th Annual Brews & Birdies Tournament was played on Saturday, June 20th at the Crystal Springs Resort’s Wild Turkey Golf Course. This popular event is a part of the Food & Beer Festival.

Kohler Distributors sponsor stationed beer tasting stations around the golf course so that players could sample some of the 150 varieties of beer being offered at the festival.

In the golf event, two-player teams competed following a scramble format for top honors in low gross and low net categories. Prizes also were awarded in the closest to the pin and long drive skill competitions.

The winning low-gross teams of Brian Glavotsky and Christopher Molinaro both ended play with scores of 8-under-par 63 with the Glavotsky-Molinaro team declared the winners following a match of cards. The winning team received a $200 gift certificate from Bottle King and a cooler to chill their winnings. Low-net honors went to the team of Michael Clohessy and Joe Shields with a score of 13-under-par 58 besting the 2nd place team of Lee Finkel and Joe Bischoff by two strokes.

The low-net winners received a $150 gift certificate from Bottle King and a cooler.

Mike Clohessy won the men's longest drive and Buffy Whiting hit the longest drive for the women. Both won a branded golf bag and a free twosome to play Wild Turkey Golf Club.

There were four closest to the pin competitions held on holes No. 2, hole No. 7, hole No. 10 and hole No. 16. Chris Politano was the winner on hole No. 2, Peter Kelly on hole No. 7 and Chris Schmidt on hole No. 10 and Mike Baczynski on hole No. 16. Each winner received a VIP trip for four to a selected beer brewery.

Following golf the competitors retired to the Food & Beer Festival being held in the big tent on the 9th fairway of the Cascades Golf Course.
