Man arrested after fleeing police

    A Vernon man with numerous warrants was arrested by Vernon police after officers recognized him driving on Route 94 in the town. Michael Davenport, 28, was arrested on June 24 by Vernon polic who were handling traffic detail.

    According to Vernon police, Davenport was observed driving a green Kia in a work zone on Route 94 by two patrolmen who recognized him.

    Davenport, who allegedly has outstanding warrants totaling $1,800 from several different jurisdictions was pulled over by the officers.

    Davenport, who was accompanied by an adult female and three young children, sped away. Davenport stopped the vehicle without warning and fled on foot, leaving the occupants behind in the vehicle. The officers quickly apprehended Mr. Davenport in a wooded area behind the Liberty Gas station.

    Davenport was charged with eluding a police officer, endangering the welfare of children, DWI with minor children in the motor vehicle, careless driving, driving with a suspended license, obstructing and resisting arrest.

    He was remanded to Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility on $33,500 bail by Vernon Judge James Devine, Vernon Police Lt. Keith Kimkowski said.
