The Jefferson Township Library has announced its July program.

Take a fascinating trip to the Jungle of the Maya with photographer Doug Goodell on Wednesday, July 22 at 7 p.m. Discover one of the world's most magical yet least appreciated places — the Selva Maya. This presentation features many of the remarkable exotic birds of the region, as well as cats, monkeys, butterflies, reptiles, and plants. Goodell also includes some of the archaeological wonders of the area, and address some of the issues threatening the region today.

Butterfly Boys in the Civil War, the story of the 3rd New Jersey Cavalry, is a slide show, uniform demonstration and book signing. In the last year of the Civil War, the Union formed a traditional European cavalry unit known as the New Jersey Butterflies. They enticed men to join a galloping, dashing, romantic cavalry unit that would charge the enemy armed only with sabres. Many of them German and Irish immigrants, these "Jersey" men lie buried in their native soil from one end of the state to the other.

Historian and author Dr. Peter T. Lubrecht traces their histories, providing detailed information on their lives before, during and after the war on Tuesday, July 28 at 7 p.m.

The library also has a summer reading program for adults. This year it's called Read "8" Things, and it is simple to participate.
