— Sparta Kiwanis held their 34th annual Scholarship Dinner where 16 graduates from Sparta High School, Pope John High School and the Sussex County Technical School shared a total of $19,000 in scholarship money.

Over the past 34 years Sparta Kiwanis has awarded $421,650 to students at Sparta High Schools.

The students received their awards at the dinner held on June 24, in the Lafayette Banquet Hall, in Lafayette Village.

Scholarships are awarded after much deliberation by the Sparta Kiwanis 2015 Scholarship Committee and were presented that evening.

Sparta Kiwanis holds fundraisers throughout the year including flower sales, Casino night, raffles, Sparta Day Hot Dog and Refreshment stand, and the Sparta Duck Races, and all of the proceeds go to benefit the community and college scholarships.

The group meets every Thursday with a dinner meeting at Homers Restaurant in Sparta at 7 p.m. New members, both men and women, are always welcome.
