Local girls shine in soccer championship

BYRAM — Four area girls recently competed in the National Cup championship in Indiana at the under-13 level with their club, Match Fit Academy FC, of New Jersey.

The road the the championship game began with a 5-0 win over NSA from Illinois.

Their second game was a 1-0 win over FC Florida and their semifinals match was a thrilling last second goal to advance over Sacramento United (CA).

The championship game was against national powerhouse NEFC, of Mass., where a 1-1 score went through two extended periods and went to penalty kicks where they fell 3-2 and took runner up.

Bridget Dudziec, of Byram, Olivia Redden, of Fredon, Madison Eisele, of Jefferson and Rebecca Groseibl, of Hardwick, were all members of the team.

The tournament was held from July 17-20.
