    July 9David E. Herman, 41, of Vernon was indicted on two counts of third-degree possession of a firearm, one count of fourth-degree violation of a court order and one count of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance or controlled substance analog.

    The case was investigated by Patrolman Stephen Rovetto of the Vernon Township Police Department.

    The case was presented to the Grand Jury by Assistant Prosecutor Laura L. Nazzaro.

    Arraignment before the Superior Court in Newton will be within the next several weeks.

    July 10Courtney A. Carovillano, 21, of Newton was sentenced to two years of probation, was ordered to submit to a TASC evaluation and follow all recommendations made. She must pay fines and penalties of $1,205 and submit a DNA sample at her expense.

    She pleaded guilty on May 26 to third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance. In pleading guilty, Carovillano admitted to possessing heroin on Dec. 1, 2014, in Newton after police were called to her location for an unresponsive person.

    Brian Lassins, 59, of Jacksonville, Fla., was sentenced to a 3-year suspended sentence with the conditions he abstain from any alcohol or mind-altering substancce use, no illegal activity in Florida or any other jurisdiction, no contact with the victims in the matter and he must correspond with the Probation Dept. He must pay fines and penalties of $155 and submit a DNA sample at his expense.

    He pleaded guilty on April 27 to third-degree terroristic threats. On Dec. 28, 2014, New Jersey State Police troopers responded to a residence in Wantage regarding a domestic dispute. The defendant was arrested for threatening his wife and other members of his family.

    Christopher J. Fiorenza, 26, of Vernon pleaded guilty to fourth-degree defrauding a drug test.

    Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 4.

    On Jan. 15, a Sussex County probation officer alerted the Sheriff’s Department that Fiorenza was defrauding a drug test with a device strapped to his person. The device was seized and the defendant arrested.

    July 13Scott V. Bancroft, 54, of Franklin pleaded guilty to fourth-degree driving with a suspended license and driving while intoxiated.

    Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 18.

    In pleading guilty, Bancroft admitted to being drunk while driving a motor vehicle in Franklin on May 18. His license was suspended at the time of the incident. The matter was investigated by Patrolman J. Snyder of the Franklin Police Dept.

    Peter K. Pastrana, 25, of South Richmond Hills, N.Y. pleaded guilty to third-degree conspiracy and fourth-degree theft.

    Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 11.

    On July 4, 2014, Pastrana and a co-defendant used counterfeit $100 bills to purchase items from businesses at Mountain Creek in Vernon. The matter was investigated by Patrolman Koumaras of the Vernon Township Police Dept.

    July 17Calvin Dolsay, 24, of Hardyston was sentenced to 2 years of probation on condition that he forfeit all seized computers and equipment to pay $905 in court fines and fees.

    He pleaded guilty on May 20, to possession of child pornography, a crime of the third degree.

    Acting on a CyberTip, an investigation found the defendant to be in possession of child pornography.

    July 23Ryczard Gorski, 46, of Highland Lakes was sentenced to 18 years in state prison, subject to NERA.

    Gorski pleaded guilty on June 11 to aggravated manslaughter, a crime of the first degree for the unlawful killing of Marek Lacki on Jan. 7, 2012, in the township of Vernon. Gorski admitted to shooting the victim in the head and causing his death recklessly under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life. This case was investigated by the Vernon Township Police Dept., Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police CSI Unit.

    July 24William Jamieson, 52, of Hamburg was sentenced to 18 months of probation and must perform 50 hours of community service. He was ordered to pay restitution of $3,041.21 and pay all mandatory fines and fees, totaling $405.

    He pleaded guilty on June 15, to three counts of theft by deception, a third-degree crime.

    In August 2014, he withdrew funds from the payroll account of his former employer on three different occasions and used the funds to pay his personal expenses. He also used his former employer’s payroll account to pay some of his personal bills during August 2014.
