A Franklin police officer is credited with saving a man who may have overdosed on heroin on Aug. 19.

Police said they responded to assist a 22-year-old male in a residence who appered to be unresponsive.

Officers quickly determined that the male had overdosed on an opiate based narcotic, specifically heroin, police said. First responding, Franklin Borough police officers administered a dose of naloxone, a medication used to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose. A short time later, police said the male became responsive, breathing on his own, and was transported to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and any necessary medical treatment.

The matter is still under investigation.

No complaints were filed at the time.

The Franklin Borough Police Department and the Sparta First Aid Squad responded.
