NEWTON — The Sussex County Library System hosted several read-to-a-dog programs over the summer and will continue them throughout fall. Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills with Whoopie, a wise and wonderful St. Bernard, at the Sussex-Wantage Branch on Sept. 2, 23 and 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Flounder, a large and loveable Newfoundland, will visit Main Library in Frankford on Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. The Louise Childs branch is the read-aloud home of Bella, Chloe, Danci and Joy, four perfectly patient therapy dogs who can be found at the branch in Hopatcong the fourth Tuesday of every month at 4:00 p.m. Signups for their Sept. 22 session are underway.

Children between the ages of 4-10 are invited to join Lucey and Finnegan, two happy Shelties, at the Franklin branch on Sept. 23 from 3-4:30 p.m.

Each child registers for a specific time slot and gets 10-15 minutes of one-on-one reading time.

Registration is by visiting or calling the Branch hosting the program: Sussex-Wantage branch, 973 875-3940; Main Library, 973 948-3660; Louise Childs, 973 770-1000; and Franklin branch, 973-827-6555.
