Councilman: Some homes don't have cable access

HARDYSTON — Councilman Frank Cicerale informed the Council that there are some homes along Wheatsworth Road that do not have access to cable for television or internet service.
Cicerale told Council that he was informed that Service Electric Cable Television holds the franchise license for servicing Hardyston’s cable television needs except for the some of the newer homes along Wheatsworth Road.
Township Manager Marianne Smith said cable access is available from Route 23 along Gingerbread Castle Road inward and from Route 94 along Wheatsworth Road, but the gap is where these newer homes are situated.
Cicerale said there must have been empty lots on the locations where the three homes are now situated and probably the reason for inaccessible cable.
Smith asked Township Attorney Fred Semrau, Hardyston Township Attorney if there is a public requirement for cable on Wheatsworth Road. Semrau instructed that he will evaluate the franchise agreement and inform the council of the service rights proposed within it and that the residents of Hardyston should be able to depend on it. Semrau explained to Smith and council that if the utility company is required to provide accessible cable service to all residents who live on public roads, he will propose a letter to SECTV notifying them of those newer homes that have no access to cable television.
Semrau said he also will work on SECTV to commit to providing service they are required to provide.
