The Vernon Township Woman’s Club, in conjunction with the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, sent Christmas stockings stuffed with snacks and personal care items to U.S. troops serving overseas.

Debra Piccirillo, chair of the club’s Civil Engagement and Outreach Committee, hand-made a dozen beautiful 18-inch red and green velour stockings and stuffed them to the brim with more than $25 worth of items frequently requested by soldiers, such as toothbrushes, trail mix, lip balm and playing cards.

The New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, representing more than 200 clubs around the state, performs this military stocking program as an annual service project. Women’s Clubs from all corners of New Jersey contribute about 1,000 filled stockings to the effort each year. The stockings are collected at headquarters in New Brunswick and delivered to Operation Yellow Ribbon (OperationYellowRibbon.org) in Marlton, N.J. From there they are shipped to military bases around the world.

Since 1972, the Vernon Township Woman’s Club has been supporting the community and the world through charitable and philanthropic activities. Membership is open to women of all ages who share a vision of service and commitment to others. For more information, call Joan at 973-827-0804.
