Fine crafts and fine art at the Skylands Gallery & Studio

    The live music was provided by musician Bill Klemm of Frankford Township who performed a mix of old classic rock and folk. Klemm, having worked behind the scenes to help Project Self Sufficiency of Newton since shortly after its inception, also represented the charitable organization at the opening.

Crafted by her husband, Ryan Lopez, each piece is uniquely painted by Lisa to achieve the semblance of a just-found and natural work of art.

WANTAGE — The Skylands Gallery & Studio is a co-operative art gallery whose members are local professional artists and craftsmen.

Members are the gallery’s administrators and exhibitors and host the themed opening receptions. “Reflections” is the theme for the current show and artists and artwork reflected on the past and looked toward the future.

Held last Saturday from 5:30-9:30 p.m., the latest opening included live music and refreshments and gave patrons the opportunity to speak to the artists about their work.

With 16 artists participating, the show was a diverse sampling of the talents and pursuits of artists in the region. Besides paintings and photography, some of the other works included in the show are jewelry, repurposed art, handbags, T-shirts, and mural size weaving.

For each opening, a local charity is chosen as the beneficiary of ten percent of opening night sales. Project Self-Sufficiency of Newton, whose mission is to support and empower low-income individuals and families, is this month’s recipient.
