History series includes 30 events

Lafayette — The 1841/1857 Gustin-Campbell house, once the parsonage of the Lafayette Presbyterian Church, sits near the Lafayette Post Office, formerly Lafayette Presbyterian Church. On Saturday Feb. 21, for the first time in over 60 years, the private house will be opened to individuals who take part in a four-part series offered by The Six Centuries Club. The 16th and 17th Century American Experience,” the club’s first fundraiser will combine private video screenings, discussion, history presentations and poetry readings by multiple readers, all to give a sense of America in the 1500s and 1600s, every other Saturday from Feb. 21 to April 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. This is the last part of the club’s examination of these time periods. Events from April to July will focus on the 1700s, and events from August to December will focus on the 1800s. The idea of covering a different century of American history every six months uniquely distinguishes The Six Centuries Club from local historical and preservation societies. The club has developed a track record of success in its two years in Sussex County, from coordinating 28 hours of public programming to celebrate the Marquis de Lafayette’s 250th in September 2007, to anniversary celebrations of Armstrong’s Hall and the Lafayette Baptist Church in December 2007 and June 2008.
