LAFAYETTE — The first ever "Sweet Corn and Jersey Tomato Festival" was held in Lafayette Village on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24 and 25.
A cornucopia of sweet corn treats were offered including: Corn Chowder, Corn Fritters, Roasted Corn on the Cob, Corn Dogs, Kettle Corn and Candy Corn. A ton of Tomato temptations were also offered including: Bruchetta, Tomato Bisque and Tomato Pie by Everything Homemade, fried green tomatoes and more.
Albert Manzo who created his own “The Brownstone Sauce” for upscale food retailers and Brownstone Fans offered samples and different varieties including Tomato Basil, Vodka Sauce and traditional Marinara were for sale.
Corn Shucking, corn eating and tomato chucking contests were also held. A Hay Maze, a Giant Corn Stalk Tee Pee, face paining and sack races were also available for children.
Iced cold beer, sponsored by Lafayette House Restaurant, was offered to adult with music performed by “Free Shrimp”, The Hit Men and “The Acoustic Wolves”. Enjoy the toe tapping sounds at the “Fiddleoff” and Banjo Competition and cheer on your favorite!
Micsin Brewing Company held a demonstration on how to brew your own microbeer while Ventimiglia Vineyard offered samplings.
Local tomato growers sponsored the “Largest Tomato and Ugliest Tomato” Contest.
