Joe Ashlar and Dave Edwards at B-Lounge

Newton — Pianist Joe Ashlar and multi-instrument virtuoso Dave Edwards will play the B-Lounge at Bula World Cuisine on Friday, Feb. 16. Ashlar has been performing music professionally around the country and internationally since the age of 10. In 2001, he founded and led the group Grandfather Ridiculous. While performing with them until 2003, they were privileged to share the stage with artists such as Trey Anastasio, Bobby McFerrin, Billy Martin, The Spinners, Rebirth Brass Band and The New Deal. Now he works as band leader of groups of a variety of formats and styles, and has performed and recorded with many notable musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Norah Jones, Chuck Loeb, Meshell Ndegeocello, Matisyahu, DJ Logic, Roy Hargrove, Candiria, Fabio Morgera, and Lou Soloff. His music has been featured on national television on CBS, BET on Jazz, and MTV. Joe made his debut as film composer in Brian Berowitz’s first film “Secret Transit Codes.” Edwards, upright and electric bassist, drummer, keyboardist and vocalist, has performed as a freelance basist with Judy Bady, Jeanie Bryson, John Blake, Joshua Breakstone, Vivian Lord, Tomoko Ohno Farnham, Steve Slagle, Todd Coolman, Vic Juris and Roy Hargrove and is Music Director of an Arts Intensive Church. Joining Dave and Joe are local guitarist B.D. Lenz and drummer Karl Latham. The music sets are Fridays 7 to 8:15 p.m. and 8:45 to 10 p.m. There is no cover charge but a $10 minimum is required on music evenings. Student discount is available.
