SPARTA — As a part of her Gold Award project, a local Girl Scout from Troop 723 plans to make her community more aware of domestic abuse and how to prevent it. On Saturday, March 28, a free self-defense class will be held for all girls ages 13 to 18 years old. This self-defense class will help girls gain self confidence and teach them ways to safely defend themselves against predators. This class will be taught at Smith Kick Boxing Academy in Lake Mohawk by Heather Smith, a professional black belt. The admission for this self-defense class is one full-sized shopping bag filled with toiletries for women at DASI. DASI is a shelter for domestically abused and sexually assaulted women. DASI houses many women and their children and relies on community support to provide for their needs. These toiletries would be directly donated to DASI and put to great use. Pre-registration for the class is required. To register, contact Lisa at 973-729-2810 or gs4areason@gmail.com.
