NEWTON — Photographs by John Jordan of the Himachal Pradesh state in northern India and Tibet will be on display at Andre’s Restaurant & Wine Boutique, on Spring St. in Newton from July 1 through August 2. Included in the show are selected black and white and color photographs of these remote regions taken in 2001, 1997 and 1995. The images give the viewer a feel for the rough terrain and high altitudes in which these people from mostly Buddhist communities live. While in northern India, Jordan travelled without running water and electricity for three weeks in slow moving vehicles. Visiting Tibet required a travel visa for China and Tibet. Due to the control of Tibet by the Chinese government, entrance can be limited and once granted, arrangements must be in place upon arrival in Lhasa, Tibet’s capital. Jordan has taught photography at West Milford High School for over 30 years. His work has appeared in books, magazines and periodicals and has been shown in galleries and museums. He is a past recipient of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation artist/educator grant. He has also written articles for Ilford Photo’s Photo Instructor. His Web site is www.photojordan.com. Opened in 1998, Andre’s restaurant was rated excellent by the New York Times. For more information visit www.andresrestaurant.com or call 973-300-4192.
