Senior housing
A group of 13 eighth-grade students at the Hardyston Middle School baked, designed and decorated six gingerbread houses for the holidays. Under the guidance of their teacher, Beverly Devine, they started with the German form of gingerbread, known as “lebkuchen,” a spicy honey cake. The students prepared the dough according to the traditional recipe. After the dough was rolled, cut and baked, the students created edible structures that resembled the traditional chalets found in the German Alpine countryside. The houses were distributed to various nursing homes in the county. And, the students truly felt the meaning of the season by their giving to others. The gingerbread house designers were: Anthony DeLucia, Ryann Eaton, Edward Freisinger, Olivia Ganz, Amanda Martino, Matthew Paulik, Paige Penque, Brianne Periu, Caroline Pluymers, Carolyn Readmond, Robert Santiago, Emily Stukenborg and Emily Takesh.
