Sussex County represented the Garden State by hosting the 4th annual Harvest, Honey and Garlic Festival at the fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 12.

“The festival is supposed to highlight Sussex County agriculture, environment, arts and eco-tourism,” said Donna Traylor, Director of the county’s Office of Conservation and Farmland Preservation. “This is a feel-good event.”

Growing every year, the festival drew nearly 40 percent new participants and filled four livestock barns for the first time, Traylor added.

In addition to local farms setting up farmer’s markets with local produce and fall decorations, the event featured nationally renowned wildlife artist Carol Decker, the Sparta Camera Club, members of the Sussex County Beekeepers Association, the Garden State Garlic Growers, and several local wildlife conservation groups.

Andersen Farms, Ideal Farms, Kuperus Farms and Lentini Produce donated pumpkins for children to decorate at the free event.
