Tricentennial Ball on Oct. 19 celebrates milestone of historic church

The First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, founded in 1720, will be celebrating its 300th anniversary next year.

To kick off this incredible anniversary, church members are hosting an elegant Tricentennial Ball on Oct. 19, the first of many events planned for throughout 2020. The Tricentennial Ball, to be held at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame, will offer everything a great affair should have: a sumptuous menu provided by Catherine’s Restaurant of Goshen, jazz music for cocktail hour, and a DJ for dancing after dinner. A specialty cocktail and wine and beer service will be offered.

Also featured will be a selection of silent auction items from local collections, all with significance to the Goshen community.

“Included in the evening’s festivities will be a live auction of three or four ‘hot-ticket’ surprise items,” said John Redman, a co-chair with Linda Clark and Elizabeth Long.

The Tricentennial Ball is modeled on a successful series of Tiffany Ball events held in previous years, when the church raised substantial funds to preserve and restore its gorgeous Tiffany windows.

In conjunction with celebrating the congregation’s historical founding in 1720, all proceeds from this year’s ball will support the restoration of the church’s classic Austin pipe organ.

“Since we serve the entire community, we want to involve the entire community to celebrate with us,” said Redman.

“The First Presbyterian has been an important part of Goshen for the last 300 years. This is a celebration for the entire Goshen community. We are hoping that Goshen residents and beyond will join us and help us celebrate this special milestone,” said Clark.
