Walpack Inn jazz program features Mark Egan, Nick Rolfe
Walpack - The Walpack Inn will feature jazz performers on Fridays from 8 to 10 p.m. through October. On Friday, Sept. 28 Nick Rolfe returns. Rolfe has performed with performers including: Frank Foster, Billy Harper, Buster Williams, Benny Golson, Winard Harper, actor/comedian Dave Chappelle, Slide Hampton, James Moody, Jimmy Heath, 2-time Grammy-Nominated Trumpeter Russell Gunn, T.S. Monk, Roy Hargrove, Amel Larrieux, soul singer Alison Crockett, Verve recording artist Lizz Wright and musician/poet/actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. He tours with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band. Rolfe is co-starring with Academy Award winners Susan Sarandon and Ralph Fiennes in the soon to be released feature film “Doris and Bernard” directed by Robert Balaban. Mark Egan, Jeff Ciampa and Karl Latham will perform Oct. 5. Egan has three platinum and three gold albums and has recorded with the Pat Metheny Group, Sting, Arcadia, Roger Daltry and Joan Osborne and performed with the Gil Evans Orchestra, Marianne Faithful, David Sanborn, and John McLaughlin. In 1977, Egan joined the Pat Metheny Group and remained a long time member of the group. Among his accomplishments, is a performance on the quintessential “Pat Metheny Group” recording with Danny Gottlieb, and Lyle Mays. He also performed with the group’s recording “American Garage.” Egan works with his group Elements, guitarist Larry Coryell, and holds down the chair in the Gil Evans Orchestra (a position he has held for over thirteen years). Drummer Karl Latham, is a Sparta resident, and a veteran of the European jazz scene. Karl appeared on seven European tours this year in addition to his local performances with his own group, Big Funk(K!) with Don Braden, the John Lee Quartet, the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni AllStars and B.D. Lenz. Karl’s new CD “Resonance” was the #4 Top Added CD to CMJ (College Musical Journal) Jazz radio in June. Karl is also an adjunct faculty member at County College of Morris and Passaic County Community College. The Friday music sets are either 8 to 10 p.m. or 8:45 to 10 p.m.
