West Point Jazz Knights to perform in Jefferson Township Jan. 30

    OAK RIDGE — The Jefferson Arts Committee will host the Jazz Knights, the U.S. Military Academy Band, for a free concert on Friday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jefferson Township High School Auditorium on 1010 Weldon Road. The 17-member band consists of individuals from all over the country playing in the saxophone, trombone, trumpet, and rhythm sections. Over the years, the band has played with Benny Goodman at Lincoln Center and the Duke Ellington Orchestra, festivals, music educators’ conventions, and the Northern Colorado Jazz Festival. At West Point, the Jazz Knights provide music for functions throughout the year. Along with West Point’s Concert Band and field music unit The Hellcats, they help fulfill official musical requirements of the military academy and the Army, including military and patriotic ceremonies both at West Point and throughout the country. The Jazz Knights also perform for the summer concert series at the Trophy Point Amphitheatre and for the winter concert series at Eisenhower Hall at West Point. There are no reserved seats for this concert, but the committee is offering free admission tickets for early seating at 6:30 p.m.. A limited number of tickets will be available at A.J.’s Country Cone on Berkshire Valley Road and Gig the Florist in the Lakeside Shopping Center on Route 15 South. Patrons can also pick up early seating tickets at The Jefferson Township Public Library’s main desk, the receptionist’s office in the Jefferson Township Municipal Building, and the Recreation Office at Camp Jefferson, all on Weldon Road. A stamped, self-addressed envelope can also be sent to the Jefferson Arts Committee, P.O. Box 2604, Oak Ridge, 07438 to receive a maximum of four free admission tickets by mail. The free admission tickets will not be honored after 7 p.m. as open seating will then be on a first-come basis. Pre-arrangements can be made for the handicapped by calling 973-697-3828.
