SPARTA. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7248 will provide 10 Ralph Rojas scholarships totaling $24,000.

Sparta Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7248 will provide 10 Ralph Rojas scholarships totaling $24,000 to be used toward educational-related expenses in the 2025-26 academic year.
“Sparta VFW Post #7248 remains steadfast in our mission to support veterans and their families throughout Sussex County, New Jersey,” said the post commander, Peter Litchfield.
“Through these scholarships, we offer veterans and their immediate family members opportunities to advance their education and careers, empowering them to make significant contributions to their communities and our nation.”
One $4,000 scholarship, two $3,000 scholarships, and seven $2,000 scholarships will be awarded.
The application deadline is April 7.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 30, and scholarship checks will be awarded during a ceremony May 21 at the Sparta VFW.
Ralph Rojas committee chairman Bill Miller said, “Funds raised from our 2024 Christmas tree sales, annual clambake fundraiser, private donations to the Sparta VFW, and contributions made in memory of Korean War veteran Ralph Rojas all contributed to this year’s remarkable scholarship fund total.”
To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must be pursuing a technical/trade school program, a continuing education program or an undergraduate/postgraduate degree and be a:
- Sussex County veteran.
- spouse of a Sussex County veteran.
- dependent of a Sussex County veteran.
- active-duty military stationed at Picatinny Arsenal or their immediate dependent or
- Sussex County student who has been accepted into an ROTC program or a service academy/school.

Applicants will receive confirmation of application receipt by email.
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the scholarship committee based on veteran status, character and academic achievement. Phone or in-person interviews may be conducted if deemed necessary.
Scholarships may be applied for annually provided qualifications and residency requirements remain fulfilled.
