Cyclist dies of injuries from crash

SANDYSTON. Damian Baranowski, 22, of Milford, Pa., suffers fatal injuries after a car hits his bicycle, State Police say.

Damian Baranowski, 22, of Milford, Pa., suffered fatal injuries in a motor vehicle crash just before 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29 on Route 206 in Sandyston.

New Jersey State Police responded to the crash on Route 206 north milepost 125.3.

Based on a preliminary investigation, they said a Nissan passenger vehicle was traveling northbound and a cyclist was traveling northbound on the right shoulder. The Nissan entered the right shoulder and hit the rear of the cycle, a State Police spokesman said. The Nissan continued to travel north, veering off the roadway to the left, colliding with a utility pole, and overturning.

The cyclist, Baranowski, died from his injuries.

The driver of the Nissan, Elizabeth Palacios Gotay, 21, of the Bronx, had serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

Recent graduate

Baranowski received a bachelor’s degree in economics from New York University in May.

He was on the NYU varsity swimming and diving team and earlier was a member of the swim team at Delaware Valley High School.

Last fall, he did an internship at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Washington, according to his LinkedIn profile.

His obituary says he is survived by his father and sister.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3 at the Saint Vincent De Paul Church, 101 Saint Vincent Dr., Milford, Pennsylvania. A Mass will be at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church.
